Google Comparison Car Insurance
An exciting new development occurred during September 2012. Google car insurance comparison is a service launched by the company to deliver a different approach to providing great value motor quotes. Users of Google in the UK will notice a sponsored listing near the top of the page when they type in the search ‘car insurance’.
Google Compare has been discontinued effective March 23, 2016
Comparing approximately up to 122* car insurers, Google provides a comparable service similar to others such as GoCompare, MoneySupermarket.com and Confused.com. There are important differences claimed by Google though, such as a promise that neither it nor its insurers will sell any personal details to third parties.
It seems that Google’s purchase of BeatThatQuote.com back in March 2011 for £37 million pounds set in motion the aim to enter the price comparison sector for car insurance. In the opinion of many, Google’s entry into the motor insurance market is a good one. Fair competition is never a bad thing and offering consumers a further choice for obtaining the most suitable, cheapest premium is to be welcomed.
The Company is adamant that their car insurance comparison offering will focus on privacy and policies not price. John Paleomylites is quoted as saying “We want to help users find the best car insurance in the fairest and most honest way possible and above all while respecting their privacy”. Google also make it clear that ‘Our service is free to you but to operate this service, we are compensated by the insurance providers on our panel”.
It has been a bone of contention in the past that some price comparison websites make assumptions about individuals during the quote-generating process. Google’s car insurance compare service requires the customer to actively select options relating to their vehicle, personal profile and policy requirements.
There are a number of very well known UK car insurance companies who promote the fact that their product is not offered on various price comparison websites. Google is, we believe in discussion with these insurers for the possibility to list them on the Google car insurance comparison site. It will also be interesting to see how the landscape plays out in the UK between Google’s new offering and other well know motor insurance comparison websites?!
*Google tries to include as many providers as possible, but not every provider in the UK has joined their panel.
